Independent real-world car advice

About Forecourt Insider

Practical automotive information for ordinary motorists—grounded in genuine UK motor-trade experience and explained without jargon, scare stories or sales spin.

A publication built to make car decisions easier to understand.

Forecourt Insider is my independent car-advice site. I use it to explain buying used cars, selling privately, part exchange, dealership processes, servicing, ownership, preparation, maintenance, cosmetic improvement, valuation and the everyday workings of the UK motor trade.

I’m not selling cars, offering valuations, arranging finance or collecting sales leads. I’m here to explain what’s happening, why it matters and what you can sensibly do next.

Closing the gap between what the trade sees every day and what a motorist sees occasionally.

Most people buy, sell or part-exchange a car only now and then. A dealership may handle those situations every working day. That difference in repetition creates a natural knowledge gap.

Plenty of car advice is highly technical, written from the outside looking in, aimed mainly at enthusiasts or reduced to generic checklists. Some of it makes the industry sound deliberately mysterious or frightening. I want Forecourt Insider to explain the real process in plain English and remove uncertainty—not create more of it.

Forecourt Insider isn’t here to teach you how to beat the dealer. It’s here to help you understand how the process actually works so you can make a better decision.

People who want a straight answer, not a test of how much they already know.

Forecourt Insider is especially for ordinary drivers who may not know much about cars: first-time buyers, newly qualified drivers, people who feel anxious in dealerships, anyone confused by part exchange or used-car pricing, and men and women of every age who simply want practical help.

The site should never talk down to them. A strong piece of FI content leaves somebody thinking, “I understand what’s happening now.” Understanding doesn’t guarantee every decision will be easy, but it makes the situation far less intimidating.

Real-world experience, balanced explanations and trust that has to be earned.

01

Experience, not theory alone

FI draws on nearly three decades inside the UK motor trade across sales, dealership management, appraisal, preparation, stock management, valuation and vehicle acquisition. The personal story sits separately on the About the Author page.

02

Trust isn’t automatic

Trust is earned over time through transparent advice, honesty, accuracy, balanced context, clear limitations, corrections where necessary and a visible distinction between fact and professional opinion.

03

No manufactured outrage

No fake urgency, fear-driven thumbnails or absurd “dealers don’t want you to know this” claims. The content should earn attention because it’s useful.

04

Every day’s a school day

Cars, technology, policies, retail practices and regulations change. Experience matters, but FI won’t pretend to know everything or rely blindly on an old assumption when current information can be checked.

One connected set of practical guides.

The major sections are designed to work together, from researching a car to living with it afterwards.

Deeper written reference.

The site provides detailed guides to return to while researching, inspecting, selling or looking after a car. It gives the context behind a check—not merely an instruction to perform it.

The practical side, shown.

Forecourt Insider on YouTube complements the written advice with real vehicles, preparation, cosmetic improvement, air-conditioning care, detailing and practical observations that make more sense when they’re demonstrated.

A place people naturally recommend when somebody needs a straight answer about cars.

The long-term ambition isn’t simply a traffic or viewing figure. It’s for people to send a friend, colleague or family member to Forecourt Insider because the advice has proved useful and fair.

I’d love to hear somebody say: “Have a look at Forecourt Insider—that’s where I normally go when I want a straight answer about cars.” The site will only get there if the advice earns that recommendation.
